Still Looking for Morphine

Shot against the backdrop of industrial wastelands and docked ships in the port city of Piraeus, Ricky’s comingof- age story offers a rare view into a world of petty theft, drug use and lazy summer days. A keenly authentic cast of professional and amateur actors defies gender and class stereotypes and carries us with unsuspected ease towards Ricky’s impending clash with authority and her hopeful escape. This “black and white film with an effortlessly underground feel and a heroine who doesn’t fit into any of the usual boxes,” was hailed by Sight and Sound magazine as one of cinema history’s “75 hidden gems.” Filmed with a minimal budget and crew, Still Looking for Morphine paved the way for DIY independent filmmaking in Greece.
